Inspiring hope,

one heartbeat at a time.

who we are

It all started with a diagnosis on a cold October day when Sam and Brynne discovered their firstborn son, Cillian, was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Being born with only half of a heart, they would together have to navigate what the heart community calls the “year from hell” as Cillian fought for a chance to survive. By leaning into their faith in their time of suffering, they were inspired to begin Heart Warrior Ministries to help the future generation of children, couples, and families navigate some of the hardest life experiences brought about by Congenital Heart Disease. For more information about Sam, Brynne, and Cillian, go to “About Us” in the header or click below.

what’s our mission

We are a veteran-founded, faith based nonprofit supporting families affected by Congenital Heart Defects through financial assistance, educational resources, and social networks.

As Brynne and Sam got connected to other families with CHD during their year long stay in the cardiac ICU, they shared in their concern for a lack of financial support during extended inpatient stays. Many families require additional housing through hotel and AirBnB to stay near to their child in the hospital and expend significant costs of food and parking and other extraneous costs while they tend to their child recovering from heart surgery.

Heart Warrior Ministries aims to bridge this gap of resources by extending financial assistance to those who need it most.

why you should care

Congenital Heart Defects are the most common birth defects to occur in the United States with an estimated 40,000 births per year (1 in every 100 births). Considering the prevalence of disease compared to other populations, CHD is one of the most underfunded disease groups. Due to the lack of funding and research, the causes to various forms of CHD are still unknown. Congenital Heart Defects can be recessive or dominant and does not discriminate against race, gender, or ethnicity. Awareness is critical to increase funding into research into areas that help determine causes of defects and ultimately cures, as well as expand support to families supporting a child with CHD. This is one of the many reasons as to why families still experience gaps of support that Heart Warrior Ministries aims to meet through the range of initiative it has to offer.
